cam update

The princess is doing well.

Two weeks ago, Jennifer and Camryn headed to Iowa City so the stem cell harvest could be done on the little lady. They where at the hospital on Tuesday to get a couple tests confirmed and then had the actual harvest on Wednesday. Since they were going  to have to stay the night, they were looking for things to do. Jen's friend works for the Hawkeyes and was able to get them tickets to the Iowa/UNI game. As you can tell by the photo, the choice of seats wasn't the best view, but Camryn was able to run off some extra energy since there weren't many people around them.

On Wednesday, the harvest went well. The nurse who monitored the harvest estimated that it should take around 5 hours, but Camryn was done in about 3 1/2 hours...the time it generally takes an adult. After the actual harvest was complete, they had to wait around to make sure they had "the right number" before they could leave. About 7pm, they got the 'ok' and they were on their way home.

On Thursday and Friday of last week, Cam had some scans and lab work done. She's not a fan of getting poked, but is becoming a pro at everything else. There was no 'official' confirmation, but by the way one of the scans looked, the doctor said the cancer is shrinking and has broken apart. This is GOOD news and that's what we like to  hear.

Last week was round 3 of the chemo treatments. Camryn is doing great, and dealing with everything so well. This round, she had to be admitted to the hospital because of how often she had to get the actual chemo. She keeps the doctors and nurses on their toes with the little comments she makes and her sense of humor. Other than the previous 2 rounds, this round did get to her a bit. She was more sleepy and the nausea finally got to her. Both were/are expected, but everyone has been surprised it has taken this long to catch up to her.

On Friday, they were able to go home and finally try and enjoy the Christmas season. There are still doctor visits and tests to be done this week, but at least they are home and can enjoy being comfortable in their own space. I can't wait to see the princess (and the rest of the family) on Christmas day.
