no shave november:out of control

some of you may know that my niece, camryn, has cancer. through her treatment, she lost her hair, like most patients do.
{princess camryn}

at her birthday party, back in november, shortly after being diagnosed, adam and her older sister, ashlyn, were talking about no shave november (not  a reputable source, but it gets the point across.) adam had this wonderful idea of growing his facial hair, until camryn's hair started growing back.

{taken in february}

as he grew it out, it kind of got nasty. i didn't really like kissing that face. fletcher would pull away when adam would rub his face on fletcher's. once brynlee was born, her head was covered by his beard because it was so full. and when adam would eat, he would frequently get facial hair in his food...G.R.O.S.S! and he said it was starting to get itchy.

at fletcher's birthday party, back in april, he decided that he was going shave it off. after all, camryn was doing so well with her treatment and it wouldn't be too long before her hair would be growing back. we were all psyched for this occasion because my sister had been prepping camryn for this and adam really wanted her to take the first snip...when it came time, she wanted nothing to do with it.

 instead, my mom was very happy to take the first snip, and second and third.
 i was also very excited to be able to get a snip of that beard i had dealt with for six months.
 after everyone had a turn, adam went over to the trash can and shaved the remainder of hair off his face, with a little helper.
 {almost back to normal}
he's back. so this is what my husband looks like? i missed that face while the hair invaded it...but, all for a good reason.
i'm so happy to report that the princess is still doing well and her hair is coming in dark. she joked the other day that she had more hair than brynlee.

wordless wednesday-haircut

**not so wordless today. a few weeks ago fletcher got a new haircut, courtesy of Pops and Cousin Austin.**

he was very excited and waited patiently.
 pops started and little boy stood so still.
 he held on to make sure he didn't move his head too much.
 he followed directions very well. looking down to make sure it was even.
 austin had to step in because little boy had had enough. he was being wiggly so pops had to hold him still.

the haircut

Fletcher's first haircut was a few weeks before his first birthday. We didn't get fancy and go to the kiddie hair cuttin' place...good ol' Great Clips did the job. About $14 and 25 minutes later my boy had a big kid haircut. Like many said, "it will grow faster and thicker after it's cut," and the statement has been true. His second haircut was the end of April. We went back to Great Clips, using a coupon for an $8 haircut, and feeling satisfied with the job, but not the price...his next would be done by Daddy. The time has come and it was time for the first home style haircut. I was ready for it, but was unsure what the final outcome would look like. Last Sunday, Adam got out his clippers, we all headed to the back garage and little man had a seat on the chair. He did well for the first 5 minutes, but after that, he was not cooperating with Daddy. I had to step in and hold him so Adam could finish the job. I was a bit shocked with the length....it was shorter than I had wanted, but it will grow out. My little boy did good and after a week, I am just now getting used to the new cut. I'm pretty sure we will continue with the home haircuts, but there will definitely need to be some experimenting done with the length.

{i'm ready dad}

{just getting started and doing well}

{done cooperating...mommy had to step in}

{i wasn't too sure about the cut}

my little, big boy

Adam and I have been discussing Fletcher's first haircut for a few weeks now. I originally wanted to take him to a place in Urbandale that is kid-friendly and does pretty cool things for the first-timer, but then I heard the price of the haircut...$25...to me, no haircut for an infant is worth $25. We were going to take him last Saturday, but I called three different places in Ames and they only took walk-ins on the weekend, and I was NOT willing to wait with Fletcher. He is the kid that has to be moving at all times and if he is being held, it's not pleasant for the holder. So, today was the day. I was envisioning how terrible it was going to be...the kid does not sit still. To my surprise, Fletcher did amazing. Adam kinda held onto him while he was in the chair, and me...I was taking pictures. He sat still for most of the trim around his ears and neck. The bangs, not so still. He reached out to grab the scissors a few times, and jerked his head away from her also. Part way through, he decided to stand and see what was going on in the other chairs. I think that actually helped keep his head turned so the gal could get where she needed to. After about 15 minutes, my little boy was transformed into a big boy. I secretly had a few tears when the job was done.

{shaggy, before the haircut, with a bit of bed head going on}
{this haircut thing is making me sleepy}
{almost done and looking so "grown up"}
